| Loi Chao Tu Friedrichshain 2002 | Over the last years, Vietnamese stores and restaurants, with their mix of groceries, clothing, blinking kitsch, and colorful trinkets, have changed the face of Berlin’s Friedrichshain district. “Greetings from Friedrichshain” is a photo documentary that traces the unique aesthetic of these places and gives a portrait of the people who run them. 11 designs, represented and distributed in the classical post card format, provide a glimpse into the diversity and exoticism this Vietnamese presence creates among Friedrichshain’s trendy, but interchangeable, bars and boutiques. The series uncovers strangeness both in images of the exotic and in unfamiliar perspectives of the everyday. As tourists send postcards from Saigon, now Vietnamese from Friedrichshain can send their families postcards from Germany depicting their storefront. In this way, the post cards of “Loi Chao Tu Friedrichshain” join the global exchange of images.
