| Beirut-Berlin 1995-1997 | “Beirut – Berlin” uses photography, painting, text, and dialogue to compare two capitals that have much in common. Through war and division, both cities lost their original center (Potsdamer Platz/ Beirut’s old city) and both are now in a state of reconstruction. The core of the project’s focus lay in studying each city’s structure in the short period between division and erection of a new center conceived to the replace the ruins left by history. Not only the problems and proposed solutions, but also the actual reconstruction plans in the centers—along with the attendant discussions, emotions, decisions—were surprisingly similar. “Beirut – Berlin” offers junctions and associated connections, making reference in its interdisciplinary approach to sociology, urban planning, and art.
